Goods of Conscience: Last week Robert Deschak, a bee keeper and friend from my former parish of Holy Trinity on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, came and installed a bee hive on the roof of the convent. We had been planning the hive for a month or so, but didn’t think the bees would be here. A bee keeper called Andrew from Connecticut arrived on Saturday morning with a “nuke” a wooden box of bees. Our beehive is a great blessing. It will pollenate flowers in a three mile radius. Honeybees pose not danger to human beings. They are attracted to pollen and water alone. They have been apart of civilization since the beginning because the hive helps us cultivate our plants to bear fruit, they provide wax for candles and honey for not only its sweetness, but, it turns out, the blessing of a shield against allergies. Let us know if you have further questions about the hive.
