The above blog was published in Spain last month, written by Fernanda Parias.
I went to Calvary Cemetery to bury Bernadette Anne Gugini, a parishioner of Holy Trinity on the Upper West Side. She was born on VJ Day, August 8, 1945 in the old Italian neighborhood that is now Lincoln Center. Her cousin said they festooned the balconies that day. The cemetery was old New York and the sun made this a warm day among the ten, eleven and twelve foot spires shooting above the close cropped grass. Great view of the skyline in the distance. Bernadette said that she loved seeing me on TV before she died and wanted to make sure that I came to do the Mass and burial. Maybe that is part of the work I am doing. I am getting a sense more people have heard the story than I know. I feel that the Candlemas event will be a success. I got an email from Fr. John Boyle in Chicacao, Guatemala thanking me for not forgetting the school children there.
