Fifteen 10/15/10
Folded into the pages of Luke
was a holy fool who rolled out
onto the fields west of Dubuque.
Dogs tongues swoll in drought
to lick his wounds and could thereby
sing a few lines of the story about
The prodigal son who left pigsty
for a robe and rings and the fattened calf.
Beyond Jerico friends came to cry
Godpains and bear cross and staff
for this holy fool’s entry into paradise,
but each foot closer increased by half.
